The highlands of Sri Lanka are extraordinarily rich in waterfalls. Many of the tropical island's waterfalls are horsetail falls or other forms of narrow waterfalls, with predominantly vertical looks. But not surprisingly, among the literally hundreds of Sri Lankan waterfalls, there are a few that are broader than high. Find a list of seven examples below.
Some of the listed wider waterfalls are worth a detour, because they themselves are notable attractions on the touristical map of the island, for example St. Clair's Falls and Bomburu Ella in Nuwara Eliya District, both of which are definitely worth driving or hiking some extra miles. In contrast, small and rarely visited waterfalls such as Dodam Falls and Hiru Ella could be considered for a break when traveling in their respective area anyway.
