Attanagalla Rajamaha Viharaya is one of the most venerated Buddhist temples in western Sri Lanka, as it is believed to have the abode of King Sirisanghabo and the location of his self-sacrifice. The Sirisanghabo story is one of the most popular folk tales in Sri Lanka. The temple is a registered archaeological that includes a Vatadage, the only classical round temple in Sri Lanka that is still intact, though modified in modern times.
