Welcome to Sri Lanka!
Why holidays in Sri Lanka? The lush green island called "pearl of the Indian Ocean" offers a wide range of attractions and activities for holiday makers. A surprisingly large variety of climate and vegetation zones and a rich natural and cultural heritage will allow you to enjoy relaxing or exciting holidays or both.
Why Mihintale?
My hometown Mihintale, where my company and my first guesthouse is located, is a renowned place among Buddhists or people interested in Buddhism, since it is the place where Buddhism was introduced on the island of Sri Lanka more than 2300 years ago. In commemoration of this, Poson Poya celebrations in Mihintale are one of the two most significant events in Sri Lanka's Buddhist feast calendar, besides Esala Perahera in Kandy. The remnants of a large monastic complex can still be seen in Mihintale. They are very picturesque due to their scenic location in a group of hills. The surroundings of Mihintale are highly attractive for nature lovers.
Mihintale is situated in only 10 km distance from Sri Lanka's most famous ancient capital and first UNSESCO World Heritage Site, Anuradhapura. Actually, as Mihintale is more tranquil than the busy new town to the south of Anuradhapura's excavation area, my guest house is a perfect location for those spending two or more nights in this area to explore Anuradhapura in some more detail. Mihintale is a perfect starting point for day trips to all major attractions of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. Furthermore Trincomalee and other coastal areas are within day tour distance. For those interested in seeing the unknown heritage sites of the beaten track, Mihintale is very close to the untouched historical region called Vanni, it is full of small ancient excavation sites off the beaten track. more about Mihintale...
