Retiyagama - hillcountry village far away from the crowds

Retiyagama is not a tourist destination, it isn’t a must-see for those travelling off the beaten path, either. To be honest, the reason for mentioning Retiyagama in our list was a private invitation. Retiyagama is a typical hillcountry village, situated in the foothills of Kuckles Range, 10 km east of Karalliyadda. Retiyagama’s attractions are the clean streams and the scenery and some small waterfalls in the surroundings. The advantage of visiting a place like Retiyagama is: The people talking to you are less interested in the dollars in your pockets. Leaving the favourite routes here and there to places far away from Sri Lanka’s major attractions will allow you to come into contact with locals in a more relaxed way than close to the tourist hubs.
