There are more than a dozen waterfalls of more than 100 m in height on the island of Sri Lanka. For comparison, the larger island of Iceland, which is the world's only country with a density of waterfalls comparable to that of Sri Lanka (and which admittedly has much more spectacular falls than Sri Lanka), has "only" half a dozen of waterfalls of this height, the much larger island of Sumatra has even less in this category. The good news for travellers is. One waterfall of more than 100 m can be seen from a viewing platforms at a sealed road, namely Diyaluma Falls to the southeast of Haputale. Situated directly at a touristic standard route (from Nuwara Eliya to Hatton or Kitulgala or Colombo) is the Devon waterfall, which measures a little bit less than 100 m in height. Bambarakanda Falls, with a height of 241 m (791 feet) by far the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, can easily be reached via a dirt road.
