The village of Ranamure, not to be confused with the Ranamure spring in Nuwara Eliya District, is situated in the remote eastern part of Matale District, halfway between the new Kaluganga Reservoir and the trailheads to Meemure and Narangamuwa Lakegala. It's located at the dead-end road to Narangamuwa, in 6 km (4 miles) distance from Guruwela Junction, altogether 60 km (37 km miles) from Dambulla. Though the altitude is about the same as that of Kandy, Ranamure has a compartively cool climate. For visitors of the region of Lakegala, Ranamure is an alternative to Narangamuwa to have an overnight stay. The best times to visit Ranamure is December to February and around August, the latter being the driest month in this area. The village is surrounded by paddy fields. The villagers also cultivate vegetables and fruits and Kitul palm trees.
