Okanda is one of Sri Lanka‘s few unspoilt beaches without hotels. It’s located just north of Kumana National Park. The sea is usually too rough for safe bathing. However, Okanda is visited by surfers from Arugam Bay, as it it is a less crowded surf point. Actually, there are three surf breaks suitable for intermediate or more advanced surfers, with with up to 8 feet waves at the main point. Be aware, there are strong rip currents that can push surfers onto the rocks. Okanda is a remote place without any life guards.
