a visit to a Muslim fishing village for a delightful seafood lunch with excursions to a variety of unique destinations: In the morning, near Trincomalee and Nilaveli, we explore a crocodile lake and enjoy a boat safari on a lagoon. The truly fresh and authentic seafood lunch at a Muslim fisherman’s home features prawns, crab, cuttlefish, seerfish, cucumber salad, Muslim rice, and tropical fruits. After the sumptuous lunch, we head further north, venturing off the beaten path to visit one of Sri Lanka’s most fascinating ancient temples, and also a picturesque beachside temple, and last not least a charming, serene swimming beach for undisturbed relaxation. Return to your hotel around 6:30-7:00 PM. Community Based Tourism (CBT): Connect with a local fishermen family through an enriching and authentic experience. The village is home to a Sri Lankan Muslim families who speak a Tamil dialect in their daily lives. For the English-speaking guide’s family fishing is their main source of income. The fisherman can offer his fresh catch directly to visitors, providing a personal and genuine interaction. By participating, you’ll not only explore the local food culture of Sri Lanka's north-eastern coast, but also support the community, directly benefiting the families who prepare and share the meal. Depending on the group size, several families may be involved, fostering a collective experience that showcases the warmth of local hospitality and the vibrant traditions of a Sri Lankan Muslim community. Guidelines for Conduct in the Muslim Village The fishing village you will be visiting adheres to traditional Muslim customs and practices. In order to respect the local community, we kindly ask that you observe the following guidelines during your visit: Please dress properly when in the village. While shorts and T-shirts are acceptable, we kindly request that you refrain from wearing swimsuits in the village. For your convenience, the private house offers open shower areas in the backyard where you have an opportunity to refresh yourself. In accordance with local customs, please note that the cooking demonstration in the kitchen is reserved exclusively for female guests.
